Anatomy and Physiology of the Eye c. 1850
Anatomy and Physiology of the Eye c. 1850
This is a beautifully illustrated 22 page booklet. It has beautiful lithographs of the eye done in 6 full plates (examples shown below). They measure 8 inches by 10 inches each and are amazingly detailed considering they date back over 150 years!
The full title is,
“A
CONCISE DESCRIPTION
OF THE
Anatomy and Physiology
OF
The Eye
AND ITS APPENDAGES
ACCOMPANYING THE PLATES OF THAT ORGAN”
Prepared by Ludovic Hirschfeld, Senior Professor of Anatomy and surgery to the Medical Faculty, Paris
Drawn and colored from nature by , J. B. Léveillé, Paris
The download is a pdf file to be read with Acrobat Reader.
Hirschfeld (1816-76) had his hand drawings copied by Léveillé and chromolithographed. So the material really dates to the mid-1800s although this English translation version was copyrighted in 1891.
